Christmas Bargain: Innis and Gunn Treacle Porter

I saw this in Aldi and knowing the other Innis and Gunn beers but never having tried this one I thought I’d give it a go. It comes in a nice box and is reasonably priced at 1.99.

Quite light for a porter, it’s a dark ruby colour with a very good tan head and has a lovely scent of dark malt and treacle. The taste is both rich and mellow with hints of smoke, rum, dried fruits, possibly candied orange peel and a subtle treacliness. Jess reckons it tastes of Christmas pudding which is quite appropriate right now! On the other hand it’s got a reasonably light body and a tiny bitter finish stops it from cloying. Very nice.
