Beer on Tour: Taipei

We arrived in Teipei last Wednesday and as well as a concert we had a couple of days off to explore our surroundings. This allowed us to get a bit of a feel for the place and I was struck both by how tropical it is, lush green everywhere, hot and humid, and by how lovely the locals seem. Everyone was so friendly, waiters and waitresses were great fun and some people we walked past just wanted a little chat to try out their English.

I enjoyed fantastic food, much of it on the side of the street, atmospheric pool clubs, a relaxing morning at a hot spring, beautiful temples and two very different shopping experiences, a massive modern pedestrian precinct area full of neon and teenagers and a traditional night market, full of wierd street food (snake anyone) and trinkets.

However, there’s not much to say about the beer. We tried a few Taiwan beers and they were all slightly sweet, fairly bland lagers. Still, at least they were local and cheap.
