Today we were in beautiful Lugano, deep in the alpine lakes of Ticino, Italian speaking Switzerland. The weather was lovely and the views of sheer mountains dropping into lakes are incredible, augmented by the fact that we enjoyed those views from our hotel terrace bar and pool.
Sadly, in this paradise I haven’t found much of a beer scene. It’s really wine country but I’m not going to be corrupted…
My first beer was a very kind donation from Robert, a colleague who saw I was a man in need on a stuffy post concert bus back to the hotel. Named Feldschlösschen Original it was a reasonably bitter pilsner with a grassy scent and an abrasive level of carbonation. For all that it was still pretty enjoyable in the circumstances.
Once back at the hotel I supped a Peroni. Not the most exciting beer in the world but it had a very subtle light maltiness and was much smoother both in bitterness and carbonation. Quite enjoyable, especially hot weather.
